Pictures From The Shoebox

Whippet racing in the North of England

I took these photographs in the small coal mining village of Gin Pit near Manchester in the north of England. Of course there is no mine there anymore, there isn't even a shop nowadays. There is however still the social club that was originally built for the mining community's 'relaxation'. These photographs were taken on the playing fields that belong to the club.

If you interested in learning a little more about coal mining in the UK a friend of mine, Alan Davies, has set up a web site dedicated to the subject at As well as being an expert in the field Alan is also an excellent photographer who also uses Leica cameras and lenses.

Prints are available of all these photographs. If you are interested in buying any of them you can enquire about pricing etc. via email by clicking here
